When to avoid:
- If a person has a Kapha Prakriti or is experiencing Kapha aggravation.
- When experiencing symptoms like excessive mucus, colds, or a feeling of heaviness.
- during periods of low appetite or digestive discomfort.
- After overeating or consuming heavy meals, as ghee can further burden digestion.
- In cases of acute digestive disorders like diarrhoea or malabsorption.
- Before or during a detox (Panchakarma), unless specifically prescribed by an Ayurvedic practitioner as part of a cleansing protocol (e.g., in small medicinal doses)
- During high fever or acute infections, as ghee may increase Kapha or Ama.
- In cases of acute liver disorders (e.g., jaundice or hepatitis), as ghee’s fat content can strain the liver.
- In cold, damp, or humid climates, as these increase Kapha and Ama, and ghee can exacerbate these qualities.
- During spring (Kapha season), especially for Kapha-dominant individuals.
